SPIRIT OF THE PRAIRIE CELEBRATION

Join us this weekend on Sunday, September 11th from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. to discover the tall grass prairie through the ages. Try your hand at prehistoric hunting at our atlatl throwing contest, watch a flint knapper create projectile points, and speak with archaeologists about the prairie's distant past. Then be sure to visit the historic encampment of La Compagnie de la Verendrye to hear about one of the first Europeans to explore the prairies. Don't miss their musket demonstrations at 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm. If you start to feel a little hungry stop by our campfire and cook up some bannock voyageur style and then be sure to visit the trapper's tent to enter the "name that fur" contest. While you're visiting why not check out the full sized red river cart and then try your hand at building a miniature replica. Before the end of the day go on a guided hike of the prairie and attend a workshop to learn how to collect your own prairie seeds to create a prairie habitat in your own back yard. Be sure to stick around for the grand finale of the day and watch a rehabilitated hawk take flight once more.
